Led by senior captains Vin Balsamo and Matt Hartline, the 1999-2000 Sheehan High School hockey team finished their season with an overall record of 8-12 and did not qualify for the CIAC state tournament. However, the team's divisional record of 3-1 earned them the first Southern Connecticut Conference Housatonic Division Championship in Sheehan ice hockey history. On their way to the championship, the team dominated Division II powerhouse Branford, 6-3.
Many players were instrumental in their success. Vin Balsamo led the team in scoring while juniors Steve Goodrich and Scott Sechko heavily contributed to the offense. On defense, Matt Hartline played solidly and many younger players stepped up. Sophomore Kyle Marano guarded the net in every game this year and will be vital to the team's success next year.
Matt Hartline earned the Sportsmanship Award while Vin Balsamo was awarded the Record-Journal Scholar Athlete award and was voted to the Division II All-State Second Team.
